Fund Criteria

For this fund, we’re interested in innovative initiatives that help to tackle edible food waste. A grant funding panel will select successful grant recipients from applicants that best meet the following criteria:

1) Focused on reducing food waste

We're ready to back initiatives that do one or more of the following:

  • Address pre-farmgate edible waste

  • Prevent edible food from being wasted at the manufacturing and processing stage

  • Minimise edible food waste from retailers

  • Find creative ways to use surplus edible food in communities or at home

2) Innovative: We’ll support creative and novel initiatives that address and reduce the amount of edible food wasted. We want to support the practical implementation of new ideas that result in processes, goods or services which minimise edible food waste and its environmental impact. We can support ideas that are ready to test, or concepts that have been tested and are ready to progress further.

3) Feasible: We want to know why you, your organisation (and partners) are the right people to deliver the initiative. You will be asked to put an agreement in place with any proposed project partners. You should be able to demonstrate how you’ve delivered projects in the past successfully. Your organisation should also show an understanding of how this project will fit into your wider activities to ensure you’re well placed to deliver the proposed activity. We will ask applicants to set out a workable budget and realistic impact targets that grant recipients will be expected to report against.

4) Potential for impact: The initiative needs to demonstrate its potential for impact. As this fund is focused on innovation, we want to see each initiative demonstrate a clear path to future impact. The project should also have a clear legacy for what happens to the project and sharing learnings after the initial funding period.

5) Open sharing: You should plan to share the learnings and results to inspire and enable others to learn from and amplify your project and thereby increase the impact. We recognise that you might have intellectual property or patents for your initiative, we won’t ask you to share anything commercially sensitive but would require you to share your broader learnings.
